Joining us for our Christmas party this Friday at The Alibi is kidkanevil, one of the most influential UK bred beats producers. His forward-thinking, incomprehensible style of making instrumentals, which are created from a little place he calls Tokyorkshire, has led him to release three full-length albums, along with a remix album, on the innovative imprint, First Word, proving himself a strong figure in the UK. I recently caught up with the beatsmith to take a look through his records, here are some of his most influential cuts.

Arvo Part – Fratres for Violin, Strings & Percussion

Mind bogglingly beautiful. Amongst the finest achievements of the human race. The first time I heard Arvo Part I was in a state of shock for months. I had the honour of meeting him once and all I could do was bow.

Slum Village – 2U4U instrumental (Fantastic Volume 2 version)

Impossibly tough call but I think this might be my favourite Dilla beat. Nuff said!

Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto – Trioon I

One of the most perfect examples of electronic and organic harmony. Two legends coming together in the most remarkable way. Super Zen.

Clipse – Momma I’m So Sorry

EGHCK!!!

Aaliyah – We Need A Resolution

Can’t really pick a favourite Timbaland beat, there’s just too many of equal brilliance. But this one has a particular depth and energy that’s super unique. Plus it boasts one of Timbos dopest outros. Girl hollluuurrrr!!

Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus, Max Roach – Money Jungle

My favourite Jazz album. Super raw performance, sounds like they’re about to get into a fight! Three geniuses playing off each other with a real tension in the air. Amazing.

Jealousguy – Animals

A new entry! My favourite track this year. An up and coming female producer from Japan that my good friend and fellow producer Daisuke Tanabe put me onto. It’s completely beautiful and completely nuts. It’s kinda genius to be honest. Scrambles my mind and soothes my soul with equal measure. Supadupafly.
