Faze Miyaki is back. The producer of 2011’s biggest instrumental grime tune returns to the fore through his Second Six EP, with trademark ‘woof’ samples in tow. Infectious, heavy hitting beats are in strong supply, each track with the capacity to tear apart a dance-floor. Anyone who thought this was a one-time affair better think again.
Miyaki retains the somewhat overwhelming aesthetic that defines his sound, and each track sees it being freshly channelled, whether it be through the frenetic chaos of ‘Tom & Jerry’ or the uncompromising brashness that is ‘Boom’. Much like ‘Take Off’ before it, ‘Boom’ is audacious, a monstrous bass on top of sparse percussion, and is sure to set floors alight in a similar manner. ‘Milkshake’ is a gritty sidewinder that incorporates an increasingly swinging, sustaining rhythm alongside it’s burly, gloopy bass line.
DIN’s pick of the lot has to be ‘Tom & Jerry’, a track that incorporates much of what we’ve come to love about Miyaki’s production. Splurt Diablo takes the reins for ‘Bang’, a Nancy Sinatra sampler that tones down the intensity for a few minutes. A smooth ‘Take Off V.I.P’ and an understated ‘Bang Bang’ finish off Second Six. Recommended across the board: for anyone who couldn’t get enough of his first EP, you know what to do.
